Inductive Leap

In the book, The Hunger Games, an inductive leap is made by the protagonist, Katniss. In the few seconds before the the gong sounded, which indicated the start of the Hunger Games, Peeta gave Katniss a warning glance. Katniss was then confused of Peeta's motives, because she distracted her, which caused her to be a few seconds late to begin moving when the gong sounded, and she did not know what he meant. Later, Katniss had fled into the forest, and discovered that Peeta was collaborating with the "Careers" a pack of tributes from districts 1, 2, and 4. When she discovered that, she jumped to the conclusion that Peeta had betrayed her.
"Okay, I can stomach that. Seeing all those supplies was
tempting. But this . . . this other thing. This teaming up with
the Career wolf pack to hunt down the rest of us. No one from
District 12 would think of doing such a thing! Career tributes
are overly vicious, arrogant, better  fed, but only because
they’re the Capitol’s lapdogs.161
Universally, solidly hated by all but those from their own
districts. I can imagine the things they’re saying about him
back home now. And Peeta had the gall to talk to me about
disgrace?
Obviously, the noble boy on the rooftop was playing just
one more game with me. But this will be his last. I will eagerly
watch the night skies for signs of his death, if I don’t kill him
first myself."
Later, Katniss dropped a nest of Tracker Jackers on their camp from a tree, in an attempt to hinder or kill them. Peeta got away, and abandoned the Career pack. He later saved Katniss' life. Katniss had thought that Peeta had turned on her, when in fact he hadn't. This proved to be an inductive leap made by Katniss. If she hadn't made that conclusion, she might have tried to get Peeta to kill the other Careers. However, it isn't her fault that she made that leap, seeing that there can 'usually' be only one winner of the Hunger Games, and no one can really be trusted. Everyone wanted to win, so Katniss would have thought that Peeta thought her to be a major threat, and wanted to eliminate her.

Wordle Explanation

1. The purpose of this poem is to convey to the reader that someone named Anne Frank had died in 1945 at the age of 16. Its supposed to invoke sad emotion in the reader.
2. I used the person's name, age, and time of death. To make those particulars more prominent, I repeated them throughout the text that later became the wordle.
3. I did not like using wordle at all. Well it could be used as a means of entertainment possibly.

Significant Characteristic

My book is the Diary of Anne Frank
One element is pathos. I think this because what she describes in her diary entries about the atrocities experienced by the Jewish causes most readers, including myself to feel pity to the victims of the Nazis' oppression and brutality which are the Jews in particular. Anne being Jewish herself and her feelings being recorded into this book makes me feel more pity than I would if I was to read the same thing in a history book.
"I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while my dearest friends have been knocked down or have fallen into a gutter somewhere out in the cold night. I get frightened when I think of the close friends who have been delivered into the hands of the cruelest brutes that walk the earth. And all because they are Jews!"  (Frank 48).

Another element is setting, which is described in detail by the narrator which is Anne Frank. This diary takes place in Holland during World War II from 1942 until her death in 1945.  In this quote, she tells her diary that she had described her dwelling (the setting) too much, which is proof enough that this book contains the element of setting.
"Dear Kitty,
I expect I have thoroughly bored you with my long-winded descriptions of our dwelling. But still I think you should know where we've landed." (Frank 17).

Film Adaptation

Part A

I have read the novel: "Eragon." I later saw the film of the same name. I would have to say that the plot of the book was completely raped, mutilated, and murdered. My reasoning for my proclamation is that the time line of the book was accelerated far too greatly, many parts of the story were altered - Which I know by reading the other books in the series that by altering what happened in the first book, the plot of the next three books would have to be changed completely. Some things were left out, for example, one of the characters in the book had a sword in his possession which he had not in the movie. That made absolutely no sense to me.
Overall I absolutely abhorred the film adaption of Eragon, however I thoroughly enjoyed the books in the series.

Suspense

A suspenseful moment in my novel was when the protagonist reads a line of poetry to a group of women who were visiting him and his wife. These women had never read books or any form of literature in their lives, for in this novel, books have been prohibited by the government. When he finishes reading this, the women are visibly distressed by the content of the poetry. One of them state that she will never step foot in his house ever again. Montag, (the protagonist) responded with the following which created suspense for me.
"Go home." Montag fixed his eyes upon her, quietly. "Go home and think of your your first husband divorced and your second husband killed in a jet and your third husband blowing his brains out, go home and think of the dozen abortions you've had, go home and think of that and your damn Caesarian sections, too, and your children who hate your guts! Go home and think of how it all happened and what did you ever do to stop it? Go home, go home!" He yelled. "Before I knock you down and kick you out the door!"
This created suspense by the reader reading with growing anticipation for what the reaction of the women would be. From the point of view of the reader, (who sees Montag as the only normal character in the book) him saying all of that to the woman would be sure to provide some foreshadowing as to that the relations between them will soon deteriorate. The mood is also very serious and somewhat hostile because of the argument which took place prior to the women exiting the house.

Character Traits

The protagonist in my novel is, in my opinion, open-minded because unlike his fellow mortals in this book, he wonders about the possibility of books being legal in the past and a fireman's job not being to burn books.
"Montag hesitated. 'Was-was it always like this? The firehouse, our work? I mean, well, once upon a time...'
'Once upon a time!' Beatty said. 'What kind of talk is that?'"
As the quote shows, Beatty is not very open to questioning the way things are, unlike Montag. (Montag is the protagonist.)
Another character trait for him could be that he is determined.  He needed Faber to help him understand what books mean. When Faber refused, he grabbed a Bible and began to rip pages out of it until Faber agreed to help him. (Pages 88-89)
He is persistent because even when his leg is injured, and when the mechanical hound is chasing him, he keeps running, until the hound doesn't know where it is. (pages 122-124)
He is curious, because he begins to wonder why the Bible is so important (pages 88-89)

Point of View

My novel is told from the third person's limited point of view. I think that the author chose this point of view because because he believes that only the thoughts and feelings of the main character are important for the reader to know. And because he is the one of the only ones who experiences changes in his thought pattern. If I had the choice, I would not change the point of view because I believe that for this specific novel, third person limited is the best. It invokes a feeling of suspense in the reader, for he/she would not know what the other person would be thinking.

Stock Characters

The character is a man named "Aziz." The film is "True Lies." In this film, the audience is told that Aziz is part of a terrorist group, which he is a leader of. The film shows him, being Arab, muslim, and part of a terrorist organization) to be cruel, murderous, beleiving his terrorist actions to be right. All these fit perfectly with the stereotypical Arab in American movies. With this stereotype, the audience assumes that the other men in this organization (which are in the movie) to not be very different.

Mood in the introduction

The mood that is being created in the beginning of this book is one of destructiveness. My justification for this is that it is written from the perspective of one who enjoys burning things while he is burning something. He describes it as something that he always desires to do and it creates a destructive mood for the reader for that reason. By destructive mood I mean a mood that shows that the protagonist is feeling destructive.
"It was a pleasure to burn." Page 3 - first sentence of the story
"Montag grinned the fierce grin of all men singed and driven back by flame." Page 4
"With the brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history." Page 3
After reading the first two pages I wanted to go burn something. I think that says a lot.
