In this movie, "The Karate Kid (2010)," Dre Parker moves to China, and unwillingly, becomes an enemy of his school's bully, Cheng, in Beijing. In his first confrontation with Cheng and his gang of bullies, he was easily defeated. That occurred once more but it was interrupted by the maintenance man of Dre's apartment, who teaches him Kung-Fu. Dre went from being a Kung-Fu failure, to winning a Kung-Fu tournament, the final opponent being Cheng. He learned enough from his initial failures and went on to be victorious. He could have quit and just been Cheng's plaything for the rest of his time there but he persisted and ultimately prevailed, earning the respect of Cheng and his classmates.
